     The History of Hope Baptist

 Then

 Now

In 1969 Bro. William Dodson, Pastor of Lamar Heights Baptist Church, Memphis, TN, consulted with the deacons and other church leaders and they appointed a Missions Committee. Dr. Bob Carpenter became pastor of Lamar Heights in 1971 and gave the Missions Committee his total support. This committee met, prayed and found a 9.35
acre lot at 4221 Crump Rd, Memphis, TN. This site became Hickory Ridge Baptist Church.

Dr. Bob Carpenter preached the first service held at this location on Sunday, March 16, 1975. Thirty-seven people moved their membership that day from the mother church, committing their lives to this new ministry.

Dr. Lloyd Humphrey accepted the call to be the first full-time pastor of Hickory Ridge Baptist Church in October, 1976. On January 8, 1978 Hickory Ridge Baptist Church was constituted with a charter membership of 307 members. As the church grew, many people came to know the Lord and in 1982 the educational building was completed to meet the expanding needs.

Throughout the years, many members started to relocate to other areas. On October 21, 1998 the church voted to sell the current property and search out a new location. In July of 1999 the current property was sold to New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church and the Circle G Ranch property at 6800 Center Hill Rd, Olive Branch, MS was purchased. The membership voted to change the church name to Hope Baptist Church in August, 1999 and Hope met for Worship for the first time at Skate Odyssey on Hacks Cross Rd, Olive Branch. Bible Study was held at DayCampus Childcare on Nichols Dr in Olive Branch.

Construction was started on the new facilities in June, 2000. On November 5, 2000 Hope Baptist Church held their first Worship Service and Bible Study at the new location.
